The people making these videos are saying that there is no point in spending time and money at an orthodontist when it’s easy to straighten your teeth on your own with household items. But the people making these videos are dead wrong, as the DIY braces trend is one that should have never got started in the first place!

Why Attempting to Straighten Your Own Teeth is Very Unwise
DYI teeth straightening poses many dangers to those who attempt this ill-fated practice:
- Can Lead To Severe Infection: introducing foreign objects into the mouth that are not made for oral use can lead to severe infection and more. When items are used to straighten teeth, like elastic bands or fishing line, these items can very easily become embedded into the gums and cause severe infections that can be life-threatening.
- Can Lead to Tooth Loss: One of the most popular DYI techniques involves putting a rubber band around two front teeth to bring a gap closed. Doing this can cause many problems. The rubber band could very easily end up around the roots of the teeth, to cause those permanent teeth to loosen and fall out.
- Can Cost a Lot of Money to Repair: trying to align teeth without any knowledge of how the teeth, jaw and bite all work together can cause more harm than good!
